I create three-dimensional artwork by the necessity to communicate by other means than words. My search seems to focus on giving concrete form to invisible human processes, such as intuitive insights, emotional and physical experiences as well as to fleeting connections between materials and the imagination.

I frequently start a new work by chance. Such a beginning may be inspired by an accidental encounter with a form, object, material, written word or, with a visual idea triggered by one of my previous works.

The forms I create tend to be small and the materials I use are quite elemental. I consider simple materials as well as small forms as potent carriers of meaning. I am reminded of Blake’s affirmation that a grain of sand may reveal a world to us and infinity may actually be held within the palm of our hand.

The undercurrent of fragility has reoccurred in several of my works. I often include in my work forms made out of unfired clay for the greater fragility this suggests.

While I develop a work I am very present to the intuitive associations that surface. These significantly affect my visual and conceptual decisions for the further unfolding of my work.

My hope is that the viewers, after being wooed by the visual aspects of my work, will let themselves experience the accumulated layers of meaning through the materials, forms as well as the titles of the completed works. My wish is that viewers will extract through their reflections and intuitive interpretations some symbolic meaning, though it may not necessarily be the same as my own.
